Foundations
Why foundations matter
Foundations spread the weight of your building into the ground. If they’re too shallow, poorly designed or built on unsuitable soil, you’ll see cracking, movement and expensive problems later. Sussex has a mix of clay, chalk and sandy ground, and each behaves differently. We dig and pour foundations to suit the ground conditions and your engineer’s specification.
Foundations
Types of foundation
Strip foundations
The most common type for extensions and houses.
Trench fill foundations
Trenches filled with concrete, ideal where speed and stability matter.
Raft foundations
A reinforced slab for weaker ground or lighter structures.
Pad foundations
Supporting columns, piers and steel structures.

FAQs
Foundations FAQs
How deep do foundations need to be?
It depends on ground conditions, nearby trees and the load. Typically at least 1 metre, and deeper on clay soils near trees. Your engineer and Building Control will confirm.
Do foundations need inspecting?
Yes. Building Control inspects the trenches before the concrete is poured. We arrange this as part of the job.
